Today's Cycling Tip

Cassette Cleaning Is Easy! - A great trick for removing grit and grime from cassette cogs is folding a rag in half, placing it between the cogs and sliding it back and forth. Repeat between each pair of neighboring cogs until the cassette looks like new. Don't spray degreaser on the cassette because this can penetrate the ball bearings in the hub, breaking down the grease inside, leaving the bearings completely unprotected against friction.

Cycling Glossary - Word of the Day

shimmy

Also called "speed wobble," this is a dangerous side-to-side front-end oscillation while riding caused by a damaged or in-need-of-repair bicycle, or road/trail conditions. It starts off slowly and gets worse and can easily lead to losing control and crashing. To stop a shimmy, clamp your knees against the top tube and slow down. If it happens often have your bicycle checked for problems.
